THE SCHOOL OF TARKOVSKY: CARLOS REYGADAS - PART TWO

Just by accident one of the first films I saw was a film by Tarkovsky called Nostalghia and then I saw the rest. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I couldn’t believe cinema could be like that - Carlos Reygadas (Burnaway)

We continue our look at the influence Tarkovsky continues to have on the work of Carlos Reygadas. Make sure to check out PART ONE if you haven't yet.

In the previous entry I left out the earliest example of Tarkovsky rubbing off on Carlos Reygadas. In his early short film, Maxhumain, we see Ivan's Childhood's DNA all over...

I read Sculpting in Time and felt it was the clearest insight I’ve ever heard about on the meaning of art, not only cinema. Sure I agree with Tarkovsky. Just I would add -aware that Tarkovsky knew this-, that time doesn´t exist without matter, space and movement (ultimately one single thing the 4 of them) which means that cinema is about the presence of matter-moving-in-space-time - Carlos Reygadas, specchioscuro.com

And like every one of his features thus far, Reygadas pays homage to the highway scene from Solaris...
